Shark Dive, Roatan Honduras

Mark and I did a shark dive during our trip to roatan (more pictures coming) we asked a member of our group if he'd send us the video and he put it on youtube so here's the dive. It was pretty scary when we were descending and looking at the sharks beneath us. I have to admit there were butterfly's in my stomach! Then they let us swim with them and I got braver and braver until they were swimming within inches of me! The scary part is when they would swim directly at you and then at the last second turn to your side. The end of the video shows when they open up the bucket and there is a feeding frenzy. It was one of my favorite dives ever.

It was sooo nice to be able to go to a beach house of a lady in the other volunteers ward. They go to the wealthy ward and she had one of her drivers take us all down there. While there their personal cook prepared all the food we brought which was SO nice! I tell you what I would have no problem with having a driver, maid, and cook!

The waves were huge! Boogie boarding was made easy because the waves would shoot you up the beach then the underpull would pull you back out without having to do anything!

There was one freaky part! I was in the bathroom and saw that I was covered in sand so I jumped in the shower to wash it off and while I was in there I looked down only to see a scorpion right next to my foot with it's stinger ready and aimed to fire. I screamed and tried to use the water spout to move him out of the way. I hope I never see another one!

The sense of taste and smell

In our classes we've been teaching them about the senses. We did two activities that were actually pretty funny with the sense of smell and taste. They all put on blindfolds and we passed different things under their noses. It was pretty funny when there were stinky things because they would pull the funniest faces.
This was Yanette before we put a lime in her mouth. I think was the funniest one to have them try because they made the sour pucker face and were all screaming and laughing.
It's so fun to work with them because they don't judge you or what you plan for them they're just excited that you're there and willing to play with them

Glow in the dark dance club

These pictures would have been a lot cooler if it was pitch black because I had to make the aperture setting really high to catch the light movement but it also shows the people as blurry because they were moving during this time as well....oh well what can you do! Safety rules coolness. It was still fun though and they loved dancing around with it.

My favorite things about El Salvador

I have two favorite things here that I will sorely miss when I leave.

1.)Pupusas-This one is a given I have loved them since my mission. What I will miss is being able to take a tiny bus up the hill and have about 20 different options of places to go. If you don't know pupusas is like a flat pancake looking thing that has cheese, beans, and meat inside of it. It might not look like much in the picture but it is the most savorey delightful food EVER!
2.) The little Panaderia- There is the most quaint little bakery that is basically a window you walk up to in a little shack looking building. It extends on in the back and that's where the ovens are and a aroma of fresh french bread and baking treats overcomes your senses. We bought 16 of the scruptious little french bread loafs for 1$!! We love them!
We call Marks hairdo right now the "lloyd Christmas" stage. He decided that if there was ever a time he could grow his hair out it'd be now. It's just a little akward. But he's still a hottie

I met a famous singer....and I didn't even know it!

So Lately there's been all sort of fiestas going on because the Orphanage completed 23 years and had their anniversary...kinda a wierd year to be celebrating??? Well some wealthy sponsors arranged for El Salvadors American Idol to come and sing to the head Nun. It was pretty cool! I didn't even know he was so famous untill he left and I asked. I should have known when every kid there was seeing every word of his songs.
This was carmencita dancing with him. The kids got quite into it and kept running up and hugging him and dancing with him. I"ll have to say he was a good sport.
I wish I could upload a video because I recorded him singing with them. But perhaps that will have to wait!
